We work safe – or not at all.

At Mainka, occupational safety is not just a mandatory requirement, but an unwavering value. Safety is the top priority in all our construction projects.

Occupational Safety

Safety Is Part of Our DNA

In 1998, we set ourselves the goal of becoming Germany's safest construction company in the long term. Since then, occupational safety has been at the heart of everything we do – from planning to implementation.

Our safety culture is reflected in many facets: a clear strategy, shared objectives, professional preparation, training, instructions, regular inspections, and innovative ideas.

Safety Through Continuous Improvement (CIP)

The CIP card is one of our most important tools for enhancing safety on our construction sites every day and strengthening our safety culture sustainably. It allows easy documentation of incidents, observations, and improvement opportunities — making it a central pillar of our modern safety and learning culture. From near misses as well as negative and positive events, we generate valuable learning effects and concrete improvements. These reports show us where we already perform well, where risks may arise, and how we can optimise processes.
This lived culture played a decisive role in enabling us to become the first German company to reach Safety Culture Ladder Level 5 (“Leading”) in November 2025. We were also honoured with the German Occupational Safety Award in 2019 for this approach.

Every report is automatically forwarded to the site team, management, and works council. At the same time, all CIP cards are stored centrally in a database, evaluated, and transformed into tangible improvements. Positive insights are published as best practices.

Safety Through Strategy

As the only construction company to date, we have been honoured twice with the German Occupational Safety Award — in 2019 and 2025, both in the category “Strategic”.

2019: Recognised for our philosophy “Occupational safety as a corporate mindset”.
2025: Awarded for our project “Digital tools for the sustainable improvement of occupational and environmental protection”.

With the MainkaApp and QR code technology, we improve safety, streamline processes, and reduce environmental impact.
These awards are both confirmation and motivation: At Mainka, occupational safety is not a project — it is an integral part of our daily work. Our accident rates have been significantly below the industry average for years.

Safety Through a Shared Goal

We build safely — or not at all. This guiding principle unites us and makes our company stand out. Our ambition is to be Germany’s safest construction company. What would push other companies to their limits is our everyday business.
Our core competencies lie in the execution of complex industrial construction projects — in civil engineering, structural engineering, and turnkey construction. Our uncompromising focus on occupational safety is our unique selling point and the key element for preventing accidents, occupational diseases, and work related health risks.

Mainka stands for safety:
Every one of us contributes daily to living this philosophy. It makes us exceptional — and shapes our path into the future.

Safety Through Professional Preparation

Safe from day one. Method statements, risk assessments, and digital tools: only with professional preparation of construction activities can safety be lived successfully from the very first day.
To best support our projects, the safety specialists of our SHE Q department (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality) continuously work on improving safety on construction sites. This ensures that even the most demanding projects become safe workplaces.

Safety Through Tailored On Site Instruction

Every month, we conduct safety briefings on all our construction sites for the entire on site team. The topics are defined in an annual plan and aligned with the specific activities and potential hazards on the site.
Our award winning CIP card system, recognised with the German Occupational Safety Award, provides valuable insights for optimising workflows. These insights are incorporated into the briefing templates and ensure continuous improvement of occupational safety on site.

Safety Through Qualification and Training

We place great importance on the education and training of our employees — because only through competence can the highest level of safety be achieved.
We provide specialised qualifications internally. Our safety experts in the QHSE department have undergone extensive training (e.g., BG Bau, TÜV), enabling them to pass on their knowledge to colleagues following the train the trainer principle.
Training such as load hooking and PPE against falls (PSAgA) can thus be carried out flexibly on construction sites. Our project managers, site managers, and foremen receive regular training — both in technical subjects and with a special focus on occupational safety.

Safety Through Inspection

Safety has many facets — including the proper condition of machinery, tools, and equipment.

Qualified specialists regularly inspect and maintain all construction machinery, electrical equipment, and other work tools such as ladders, lifting and load handling gear, and personal protective equipment against falls. Our employees are also certified to inspect sealing bladders and leak testing cushions.

Responsibility

The 1,000 Person Incident Rate

In the construction industry, around 44 recordable accidents per 1,000 employees are considered “normal” (TPQ 2024: 43.76). For us, this is unacceptable. At Mainka, the rate has been close to zero for years.

The 1,000 person rate makes the issue tangible: Transferred to a school, it would mean an entire bus full of injured children every year. No one would tolerate that — yet on construction sites, it is everyday reality.

Safety begins in the mind — with the decision not to accept accidents. That’s why our rules apply to everyone, from apprentices to management.
Our goal: Everyone goes home healthy at the end of the day.

Certificates

Reliable Quality — Proven by Certification

The safety of your construction project is our highest priority. This is demonstrated not only by our exceptionally low accident rates, but also by the certifications we have been awarded. Our services and processes are continuously monitored — because occupational safety requires constant attention.
